2006 winners of the Yuma Potpourri Artists' "Ken Davies Memorial Awards" were;

Elena Cheung (Young Artist) - Chinese Watercolor - Just 11 years old, Elena began painting with watercolors when she was five. Her parents, Peter and Melanie Cheung, recognized Elena's extraordinary talent and arranged art lessons by the time she was seven. She currently receives 2 hour lessons in Chinese watercolor every Saturday. Elena explains that Chinese watercolor requires using 2 unique brushes at the same time, one for color, one for water. She explains that it often takes 3-4 weeks to complete a painting. Eleana attends Yuma Lutheran School where she enjoys sports. She is also a 4-H member and entered her rabbits in the fair.

Richard Gajefski - Model shipbuilder, Richard spent 1100 hours building his replica of the Royal Caroline. He used Mahogany wood planks as well as walnut and basswood. The original yacht was built in 1749 for Queen Caroline. Richard moved to Wellton in Dec. 2004, from Fillmore California. He refined his knot tying skills while serving in the US Coast Guard and later with the with the Lake Casitas patrol. He estimates that his replica has 2000 knots in 3 line sizes. After beginning as a child, Richard has completed over 1000 boats and ships. Married to the same lady for 48 years, Richard also enjoys tying flies, fly fishing and painting landscapes.
